Course Learning Objectives/Outcomes

By the end of the course, the Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist will be able to:
-Name three concepts that focus on the HIPAA guidelines related to minors.
-Name three risks in which ethical boundaries could be broken due to the sharing of HIPAA approved information on the internet.
-Name three changes in boundaries in regards to the disclosure of raw test data.
-Name three controversies created by HIPAA and its possible breach of privacy boundaries.
-Explain what are the type of research must adhere to relevant HIPAA regulations. 
-Explain how does HIPAA broadly define “public health information” (PHI). 
-Explain what are the conditions can a clinic deny access to a person’s personal health information. 
-Explain what is the second confidentiality problem under HIPAA. 
-Explain what is a challenge concerning healthcare organizations ensuring HIPAA compliance. 
-Explain if the health care provider can tell the patient’s family members, if a patient with a serious mental illness has stopped taking a prescribed medication.
